Jason Langan, the Managing Director of Hellier Performance, has been building racing engines since 1989, having started in motorcycles in 1987. After progressing to building F1 engines at Brian Hart in 1989, he then moved to Janspeed Motorsport and was heavily involved in both Touring Car and F2 Rally programs from 1992 - 1997.
This work also included many manufacturer development projects for Lotus, Chrysler, Nissan and Rover, one of which was the K-Series engine, enabling the OE manufacturer to supply High Performance derivatives. We are used to working to the high standards, quality and working procedures that manufacturers expect.
The majority of our work is for manufacturers and companies both in the UK and abroad. Our customers choose to use us and come back time after time, because we provide a professional, personnel service, even though we are often not the cheapest!
Our new location has extensive workshop facilities, including a 4-Wheel Drive Rolling Road, two engine dyno's, machine workshop, flow benches and fabrication shop. We tailor every engine specification to suit the intended use and customer requirements. We place great emphasis on an engine having a good power curve, with excellent drive ability, and a torque curve with no dips - which in our opinion is an area so many fail in. We feel this is extremely important. An example of this is our S1600 Gravel engine, which pulls down to 1800 rpm and produces peak power at 8000 rpm, and makes for a very flexible engine, with a wide spread of useable power.
We cater for all 4-stroke engines, including K-Series, VX, Ford and all Japanese engines.
We have developed Vauxhall engines, with some fantastic rolling road results coming from the VX 20 XE engine often used in Caterhams - see our new section for details and another new section shows a selection of power plots for Hellier developed engines.
